You enter in Beijing and fly home from Hong Kong on day 10
The order is Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Hong Kong, nine nights. Macau is not on this route. If you want it, say so before you book.
Three facts first
The route is built for the 240-hour visa-free transit rules, and your passport has to be on that list. The Beijing–Xi’an high-speed train, the Xi’an–Shanghai flight, and the Shanghai–Hong Kong flight are in the price. Your international flight into Beijing, and your flight home from Hong Kong, are yours to buy.
The ten days
Day 1. You land in Beijing. A private car takes you to the hotel.
Day 2. Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and Jingshan. The Forbidden City ticket is included. It is booked under your real name, and that name must match your passport.
Day 3. Mutianyu Great Wall, the Bird’s Nest, and the Water Cube.
Day 4. The Temple of Heaven in the morning. The high-speed train to Xi’an in the afternoon. The ride is a little over four hours.
Day 5. The Terracotta Army, then the Great Tang All Day Mall.
Day 6. The Muslim Quarter, the Gao Family Courtyard, and a shadow-puppet show, then the flight to Shanghai.
Day 7. The Bund, Yu Garden, the Shanghai Museum, and Shanghai Tower.
Day 8. The flight to Hong Kong. A private car takes you to the hotel. The afternoon is free.
Day 9. Victoria Peak, Wong Tai Sin, and Mong Kok.
Day 10. A free morning, then a private car to Hong Kong International Airport. You fly home from there.
The train ticket and both flights above are included. The name on each ticket must match your passport.
What the price includes
The price also includes the hotels, breakfast every day, the lunches named on the itinerary, an English-speaking guide, a private car, and the tickets listed. Meals that are not listed, and personal spending, are extra. The figure depends on your dates and your group size. The email quote is the price for your trip.
The mainland permission ends on day 8
While you are in Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai, you are on one permission to be in mainland China: a tourist visa, unilateral visa-free entry, or the 240-hour visa-free transit. On day 8, at the airport in Shanghai, you clear mainland exit. That mainland permission ends, and you fly to Hong Kong. At Hong Kong airport you clear Hong Kong entry. On day 10, at Hong Kong airport, you clear Hong Kong exit on the same passport and fly home. Hong Kong is outside the mainland stay area. After you have entered Hong Kong, the same 240-hour permission does not let you go back to Shenzhen.
What you show at Beijing entry
At Beijing entry, show your passport. If you hold a tourist visa, the visa page is in that passport. If you are using the 240-hour transit rules, show your passport and the ticket that takes you out of the mainland to a third place. On this route, that ticket is the Shanghai–Hong Kong flight.
Which journeys are checked
The Beijing–Xi’an train and the Xi’an–Shanghai flight stay inside the mainland. There is no border check. The passport is there so the name can be matched. The Shanghai–Hong Kong flight has two checks: mainland exit in Shanghai, Hong Kong entry in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong officer applies Hong Kong’s own entry rules.
The 240-hour rules all have to be true at once
Your passport is on the list. You enter the mainland from somewhere other than Hong Kong, and you leave the mainland for Hong Kong. A workable example is a flight from the United States into Beijing, the flight to Hong Kong on day 8, and the flight home from Hong Kong on day 10. A trip that starts in Hong Kong, enters Beijing, and then flies home from Hong Kong does not qualify. The mainland portion is counted from 00:00 on the day after you enter, and you leave Shanghai within those 10 days.
If your passport is not on the list
Use a tourist visa or unilateral visa-free entry for the mainland. Day 8 still ends the mainland portion in Shanghai. Day 10 is still a Hong Kong exit. What the port does on the day is what counts. Check your own passport before you book.
Macau is not in these 10 days
Hong Kong and Macau are separate border checks. To add Macau, you enter Macau on your passport. The ferry or the bridge bus is extra. If day 9 should be Macau, or if you want an extra day, write that before you book, and add a night. Macau: https://chinatour.eastmarvel.com/destinations/macau-tour.html. When you write
Send the date you arrive in Beijing, the number of travelers, the country that issued your passport, and whether you will use the 240-hour rules, a tourist visa, or unilateral visa-free entry. Send the date of your flight home from Hong Kong. If you want Macau, say whether it replaces day 9 or adds a day.
