Day by Day Itinerary
Arrive in Beijing, the capital of China and the starting city of this 11-day Yangtze River tour. Your English-speaking guide meets you outside the luggage claim area with a name sign, then transfers you by private vehicle to your hotel. Check in and rest after the international flight. Use the free time to settle in, adjust to the time difference, and prepare for Temple of Heaven and Forbidden City sightseeing tomorrow.
Meet your guide in the hotel lobby and begin at the Temple of Heaven, the large imperial worship complex where Ming and Qing emperors prayed for good harvests. Continue to Tiananmen Square, then enter the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace that housed Chinese emperors for more than 500 years. Walk the courtyards and halls as your guide explains palace layout and court life on this classic Beijing sightseeing day.

Travel by private vehicle to the Badaling section of the Great Wall. Climb the stairs on foot or take an optional cable car (own expense) and spend about two to three hours walking the ramparts and watchtowers. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, a large and well-preserved imperial garden that combines hills, open water, and lakeside halls into one designed landscape north of central Beijing.

Enjoy a free day to explore Beijing at your own pace after breakfast, whether you revisit a neighborhood from earlier days or rest at the hotel. In the evening your local guide picks you up for a private transfer to the railway station. Board the soft-sleeper train to Xi'an, the next stop on this Beijing-to-Shanghai Yangtze itinerary, and settle into your berth for the overnight ride toward the ancient capital.
Arrive in Xi'an in the morning, meet your guide at the railway station, and transfer to the hotel to refresh. Later travel to Lintong for the Terracotta Army and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. More than 8,000 life-size terracotta soldiers and horses stand in battle formation across three excavation pits, one of the major archaeological finds of the twentieth century. Return to your Xi'an hotel in the late afternoon.

Continue to the Muslim Quarter near the Great Mosque for local snacks and souvenir lanes. In the afternoon fly to Chongqing, where your guide transfers you to the Yangtze River cruise ship to begin the Three Gorges sailing sector.

Spend the morning sailing the Yangtze River as the cruise continues downstream between Chongqing and Yichang. After lunch, disembark at Fengdu for a shore excursion to Fengdu Ghost City, where temples and river folklore introduce a distinctive strand of Yangtze culture. Return to the ship for dinner and the welcome banquet in the evening while the vessel stays overnight on the river.

Continue the Yangtze River cruise through the Three Gorges scenic corridor, with time on deck to watch the steep riverbanks and passing villages. A shore excursion takes you onto Shennong Stream, a tributary where a smaller boat or sampan tour follows the narrower waterway. Full-board meals are served on the ship as you sail deeper into the classic Chongqing-to-Yichang cruise route.
